Exactly what the ultimate luxury and affluence in fashion is measured by
Luxury is defined by wealthy consumers as the best in design, quality, craftsmanship and service – all combined into an extraordinary experience that is truly relevant, both functionally and emotionally.
Bespoke…exactly what the ultimate luxury and affluence is measured by. Having something tailor-made or customized makes it more than a top level luxury item…it makes it something personal, giving it more meaning and satisfaction.
Of course most people thinking of bespoke items think of fine custom tailored suits, clothing, footwear – but bespoke items can be just about anything from cars, luggage, furniture, watches, vacations and just about anything.
As luxury consumers have become more diverse and discerning, more brands have begun to offer bespoke services.
Accounting for 40% of global sales, men’s spending on luxury also grew almost twice as fast as women’s in 2011, continuing to do so, and luxury brands wish to capitalize on that trend.
In the past, small tailors have been known to offer the best bespoke services with the most attention to the client, but big brands have been taking note and coming around. Gucci recently added an extensive new made-to-measure service for suits and shoes. Pal Zileri offers made-to-measure bespoke suits. Brioni recently revealed that 40% of its sales are derived from its bespoke products, stitched by hand in the Southern Italian town of Penne. MARK / GIUSTI has a bespoke service dedicated to designing and producing exclusive custom-made bags for their most consummate and discerning clients, and Prada launched customizable eyewear and accessories last year to test the bespoke market slowly.
While the economy around the world is still fragile, luxury spending is up this year. For the wealthy, the experience is as important as the final product – and bespoke services will continue to be on the rise.
In the coming months we will be sharing with you our finds of some of the best bespoke services available.
