Tod’s is predominately recognized as a top maker of fine handmade footwear, and the shoe that put them on the map is the Gommino
While the Gommino line is very popular among the brands women clientele, it is known that the heart of the Tod’s collection for men has always been the Gommino loafers and driving shoes. The Tod’s aesthetic, which is based on a fusion of artisanal skills and heritage with contemporary design and technology, has always been the hallmark of the company. And so it continues to evolve that the Tod’s Gommino collection for men for Spring/Summer 2015 sees the spirit of Made in Italy, always central to the philosophy of the house, interpreted through an innovative use of fabrics and design details.
Tod’s is an Italian footwear and leather goods company, founded in the Marche district back in the 1920s by Dorino Della Valle. Over the years the company has passed down through the generations and the current President and CEO since October 2000 is Diego Della Valle.
The original driving shoe, billed as “a luxury moccasin that became the staple of casual chic style,” the Gommino is handmade in Italy by artisans using time honored traditions passed down throughout generations. Available with or without the signature bow, and in a number of colors and in leather or suede, the Gommino, while often duplicated, is easily recognizable by its exactly 133 “beads” which make up the sole and heel.
People in the know will immediately recognize this famous shoe and they will know that you know fashion and mean business, even while relaxing in casual style. The Gommino can be worn with socks, but the preferred way just might be sock-less on the deck overlooking the water or on the boat watching the sunset with your cocktail, cigar and special lady.
And while the price tag may be hefty, you are paying for timeless style, handmade excellence and attention to detail that will last for many seasons to come. The Italians get it, and time that you did too.
As well as the Gommino looking good, the Spring/Summer 2015 collection is also supremely practical and functional, well suited to a modern man whose lifestyle requires not only style, but also easy-to-wear functionality from his wardrobe. The inspiration for the color palette of the collection comes from the Tod’s J.P. Club in Milan, a gentleman’s club where members can come for relaxation and good conversation among elegant, masculine furniture and furnishings.
The new Gommino is the Club Gommino, which incorporates one of the new sophisticated metal detail defined by an accessory that echoes the iconic scooby doo bracelet, applied as a mask. Colors take centrr stage in the Gommino selection, with the shoe being offered in a wide variety of hues that suggest both the earthy side of nature, as well as the prints with brights recalling favorite Tod’s holiday venues like Capri and Costiera Amalfitana.
The new City Gommino with pebbling on a solid sole, raw-cut laces screws in burnished metal, and saddlery-inspired morsetto covered in leather.
New as well, is the City Spider, as an evolution of the City Gommino with laces.
While Tod’s has grown into offering an exceptional line of products for both men and women, they will always owe their success to its flagship model, the Gommino.
