A masterpiece rustic retreat in the Tuscan hills
When many people think of the regions of Tuscany, rustic beauty comes to mind. When planning a holiday visit there, perhaps nothing can bring more serenity than staying in a rustic retreat, surrounded by an elegant charm that beholds ancient history and yet provides the modern comforts of today.
In fact, while there is no shortage of luxury rustic retreats in Tuscany, few have mastered the art of hospitality. Hotel Monteverdi is an exceptional one worth considering.
Set in the Tuscan hills between Rome and Florence, in the village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro – Hotel Monteverdi is a boutique hotel and villas. Italy is full of old things and beautiful places – and the restored medieval Hotel Monteverdi is certainly both.
The hotel restoration began in 2004, and is framed by spectacular countryside landscapes that allow this masterpiece destination to perfectly blend in with the scenery – staying true to the unique architecture of the region.
Once inside, you will experience genuine spaces and design. Local woods, Tuscan flagstone, granite and Carrara marble give each room a distinct appearance that is authentically grounded in the spirit and humble origins of the Val d’Orcia. Working in tandem with her husband, Rome-based Ilaria Miani infused the hotel with her own tasteful and eclectic signature: a sensibility that embraces simplicity, unencumbered spaces, optimization of natural light and ubiquitously spectacular views. The ceilings are supported by wooden beams and stone walls add up to the original atmosphere.
The destination includes many amenities and activities, including an art and culture gallery. The hotel itself has seven rooms, each adorned in luxurious rustic style, blending period features with obscenely-elegant modern comforts. There are also three super-swanky villas available to rent.
Guests can use the outdoor swimming pool, relax in the thermal springs spa, and eat in the “farm-to-table” caffè. As for the views – nothing short of breathtaking.
Enjoy a delicious dinner at its newest restaurant Zita, a ristorante celebrating Tuscan flavors, designed by renowned international architects Foster + Partners. Zita is led by newly appointed Executive Chef Riccardo Bacciottini – a native of Tuscany, bringing a wealth of knowledge and extraordinary experience from Michelin-starred kitchens around the world.
After an exquisite meal, the surrounding village is welcoming to take a passeggiata. Wind down your evening with a stop to the wine bar in the piazza – followed by enjoying a concert by some of the best musicians and singers in the world, held in the 14th Century Romanesque church.
