Add security to your home while creating functional beauty
Unfortunately, home security is a growing concern for many people in today’s society. And how do you add security, while maintaining your homes beauty?
A glass entrance door on the ground floor of a house allows the light to filter in, but it isn’t always perceived as secure – even if it is built with shockproof glass.
Italian wrought iron craftsman, Villi Zanini, often has customers ask him to help render their home secure, while embellishing it. Wrought iron doors can provide a greater level of protection. In these cases they start from scratch, creating a security door, i.e. in metal, then armoring it, and subsequently adding decorative elements and materials.
The great advantage of starting off from a design is to be able to simultaneously work on both the security and aesthetic aspects, integrating glass, wood and iron with decorative elements that render the final result harmonious. These processes are carried out in close collaboration with architects and interior designers.
Wrought Iron doors are both elements of security (from a storm, break-in, i.e.) and design. Some parts of the door, such as the handles or inserts can be also made in the same material.
For houses with doors and windows on the ground floor, a grill is an essential element: it allows a door or window fixture to be left open without the anxiety that someone will trespass. However, security can be transformed into oppression if we get the feeling that we’re imprisoned from the inside. The need to feel safe without feeling oppressed is a request Villi gets more and more often.
Villi Zanini visited a clients home in Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area, California to work on a design for a wine cellar in Palo Alto. The architect who had designed the whole house in a modern style wished to include a wrought iron door as a welcoming entry to the wine racks.
In this case, the decorative elements, designed and inspired by the architect, were faithfully created. The bigger challenge was successfully rendering the ideas sketched out on paper, using non-conventional tools and techniques. The final project was deemed a success.
So the next time you think of home security, use your imagination to combine security with beauty – and call Villi Zanini to help bring those ideas into reality.
