Kristine Jannuzzi shares snapshots from life in Tuscany
Dear Italia Living Readers,
Greetings from bella Firenze, cradle of the Renaissance and capital of Tuscany! I know many of you have had to postpone or cancel trips to Italy in 2020, and that the resulting disappointment can be more intense this time of year even under “normal” circumstances. So I’m hoping that these snapshots of life in Florence over the past four months might brighten your holiday spirits, and inspire you to start planning your next trip, whenever that will be possible.
The Christmas decorations that have spread across town this month are truly breathtaking, from the tree in Piazza del Duomo to the dazzling lights along Via dei Tornabuoni, one of Firenze’s most elegant streets.
The weather this fall has mostly been quite mild, and I have witnessed some stunning sunsets over the Arno.
The city’s iconic architecture and churches seem more beautiful than ever, with fewer people around allowing for closer, less hurried views. The skyline in the evening never ceases to delight.
Since I relocated to Florence in September, I have been staying in an ideally situated apartment in Palazzo Belfiore, just steps from the Ponte Vecchio and Santo Spirito. Palazzo Belfiore is one of the three properties run by Your Place in Florence, and the rooms and suites are suitable for both short and longer-term stays. The ample private garden behind Palazzo San Niccolò is a lovely oasis, and I would highly recommend staying in any of these palazzi when you are able to return to Firenze.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these highlights from the last few months, and that you have a safe and happy holiday season. Buon Natale da Firenze!
Warmest wishes,
Kristine
