On February 24th, 2013, the star studded 85th Academy Awards graced the televisions of millions of viewers all over the world.
How did Italian fashion grace adorn the carpet this year? Below are a highlighted few:
Sally Field and Hillary Swank had a near fashion faux pas when they both wore almost identical bright red Valentino Haute Couture gowns – Field on the red carpet and Swank at the Vanity Fair After- Party. The gowns were long sleeve, silk chiffon, ruffled and floor length-absolutely ravishing. Valentino’s color of choice was red, as Jennifer Aniston also appeared in a strapless floor length red Valentino princess gown.
Best actress nominee for Zero Dark Thirty Jessica Chastain sparkled in a gold strapless Armani Prive gown. Although she did not win the Oscar she was still glamorous and radiant.
Armani is also noted for dressing 9 year old best actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis for Beasts of the Southern Wild in a navy blue, sparkly puff dress. Wallis, who is the youngest actress ever nominated for an Oscar, seemed to be calm, cool and collected while walking down the red carpet.
Naomi Watts also looked beautiful and fresh in a head to toe glittering Armani Prive cut-out gown, nominating her for best dressed of the night.
Halle Berry’s plunging Versace gown and pointed shoulder pads made a bold statement while sheer long sleeves balanced out the revealing plunge creating a pinch of sophistication to an otherwise sexy choice. Berry meshed into the theme of glitz and sparkle that many celebrities chose to wear at this year’s event.
The most scandalous dress of the night may have to be Oscar winner Anne Hathaway’s baby pink Prada gown, not because it was revealing too much skin, but because it was revealing too much nipple. The actress won for her role in Les Miserables, but much of the attention was called to her protruding nipples and the pointy fabric covering them-so much so that a Twitter account was created for them (@Hathawaynipple). Hathaway openly admitted to the camera that she did not know what she was wearing until three hours before the ceremony. Perhaps next time she will plan ahead.
Jennifer Hudson’s blue printed Roberto Cavalli gown screamed confidence on the red carpet. Extremely busy with patterns and different shades of blue, the dress hugged her svelte body and was downplayed just enough with minimal jewelry.
Italian luxury fashion took its rightful place on the red carpet, highlighting the influence, talent and romance that celebrities look for when it is their time to shine.
