Umbria find to be auctioned off in NYC early December and proceeds to go to charity
We recently revealed that Sabatino Truffles, the sister company of our Featured Sponsor partner Skin&Co Roma, had unearthed the world’s largest truffle on record last month.
Found in the Umbria region of central Italy, the massive truffle weighs 4.16 pounds, which is almost twice the size of the current record holder.
Offers of around $1M have already come in from China and Dubai to buy the largest and most expensive tuber to date.
The Balestra family of Sabatino Truffles will auction it off in New York City in early December and donate the proceeds to a charity of their choice.
White truffles are the rarest and most coveted food ingredients in the world. They are found only by using specially trained dogs in northern and central Italy during the months of October, November and December.
White truffles are an incredibly sought after ingredient, and one of the rarest and most expensive foods in the world. Just a few shavings of the coveted ingredient can cost hundreds of dollars in restaurants.
Sabatino Truffles was already in the International press in October 2014, for having hosted Oprah Winfrey on her truffle hunting excursion in Umbria.
About Sabatino Truffles: Sabatino Truffles was founded in 1911 by the Balestra family in a small storefront in Montecastrilli in Umbria, Italy. They catered to local families by distributing truffles, olives, olive oil and sardines. Nearly a century later and operated by the third generation of the Balestra family, Sabatino Truffles has grown into a large agricultural company with vast black and white truffle grounds, modern production laboratories and widespread distribution. It is the premier source for fresh truffles and award-winning truffle products in the United States with offices in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas. sabatinotruffles.com
