American luxury resort owner of Monteverdi Tuscany plans new investments in the winery
Wine Spectator has reported that American Cincinnati-based attorney Michael L. Cioffi, founder of Monteverdi Tuscany, a luxury boutique resort located in Tuscany’s Val d’Orcia region, has acquired Tenuta Valdipiatta in Montepulciano for an undisclosed price.
The deal includes nearly 75 acres of vines, 5 acres of olive trees and the winery facility and cellar. Valdipiatta produces an average of 6,600 cases each year, including a Rosso di Montepulciano, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Vino Nobile Riserva and the single-vineyard Vino Nobile Vigna d’Alfiero.
Cioffi has committed to the future growth of Validipiatta by investing to purchase additional vineyards, update the winery equipment and implement a strategic marketing program in conjunction with Monteverdi Tuscany.
The Tenuta Valdipiatta family wine estate is in the heart of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano region in the south-eastern part of Tuscany. The founding owner started the winery in the 1960s and was bought by Giulio Caporali in the 1980s. His dream was to live in one of Tuscany’s most beautiful rural areas and make outstanding wines. He handed over the reins of the winery to his daughter Miriam in 2002, who had studied winemaking in Bordeaux and mastered the craft.
The Tenuta Valdipiatta purchase transaction was motivated by a mutual respect, friendship and desire to blend two families that care deeply for one another with a shared vision. Previous owners Miriam Caporali and her husband, Giuliano, will continue to oversee day to day operations, with Miriam as COO.
