Chefs Who Care Event Raises Funds and Spirits For The Ashley Lauren Foundation
Ocean Township, NJ – The highly anticipated Chefs Who Care event, held at The English Manor on Monday, July 17, 2023, was a resounding success, drawing a remarkable crowd of culinary enthusiasts and supporters. This premiere gathering of renowned chefs from New York City and New Jersey exceeded all expectations, delivering an unforgettable evening that celebrated the art of gastronomy while raising funds and awareness for The Ashley Lauren Foundation. “Our deepest gratitude and appreciation go to The English Manor for hosting and supporting us in every way possible for this inaugural event,” said Monica Vermeulen, Founder/CEO of the Foundation.
Attendees were transported to the heart of Italy as they embarked on a culinary journey through La Riviera D’Italia, expertly curated by a roster of esteemed chefs. Each dish was perfectly paired with premium Italian wine and spirits, further enhancing the flavors and taking attendees on a captivating flavor adventure.
“We are thrilled with the overwhelming success of this year’s Chefs Who Care event,” exclaimed Gennaro Pecchia, Co-Chair of the event and Co-host of The Good Food Fellas on Spotify. Participation of industry veterans included Chef Cesare Cassella, Chef Silvia Barban, Chef Jesse Jones, Chef Fabrizio Facchini, Chef Angelo Competiello, Chef Surbhi Sahni, Chef Joe Murphy, Chef Joe Settepani, Chef Joe Tartamella, Chef Roberto Caporuscio, Chef German Rizzo, Chef Ryan DePersio, Chef Vincent Garofalo, Chef Bryan Giron, Chef Stephen Yen, and Chef Jessica Bucceri.

We also had the privilege of partnering with renowned luxury beverage and culinary brands such as D’Artagnan, Calvisius Caviar, Urbani Truffles, San Pellegrino, Mionetto Prosecco, Meximodo by Le Malt Hospitality, Wines With Causes, Jacques Torres Chocolate, Watermark Lounge AP, De Cecco Pasta, Partanna Specialty Foods, Saravella Coffee and New Frontier Wine Co., which enhanced and elevated the overall experience for our guests,” said Eric Vitale Co-Chair and famed NYC photographer. Other special guests included local Jersey Shore native Casey Webb, Travel Channel’s host of “Man Vs. Food”, entertainers DJ & MC Paul Centamore of Paul Anthony Entertainment, Julian & Dominique, Armando Ricco and our friends from Divine Photo Booths.
The Ashley Lauren Foundation took the opportunity to honor Sir Gary Kong with the prestigious Humanitarian Award. Sir Gary’s inspiring journey from China to America, where he overcame adversity and pursued his passion for the culinary arts, has been a remarkable one. As a self-made businessman, real estate developer, and philanthropist, Sir Gary’s dedication to giving back to the community and supporting charitable organizations has been nationally recognized. The event was further enriched by the special donations from his winery and brewery, The 1 Wine and NY Classic Beer.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sir Gary for his immense contributions and support,” expressed Monica Vermeulen, Founder/CEO of the Foundation. “His generosity, along with the collective efforts of our chefs, sponsors, and attendees, will enable us to continue our mission of providing much-needed resources and assistance to children and families battling cancer.”
The success of the Chefs Who Care event is also due to the immense support of the ALF team; Michele Lanfrank – Chief Visionaire, Maria D’Amato, Margaret Fontana, Cathy & Richard Troger & the Design 446 team, who devoted their time and expertise to securing brand partners, event production details, sponsorships, design, media, and event awareness. We also would like to thank our amazing committee, volunteers, ALF board members and the community for their continued support.
The Ashley Lauren Foundation, the beneficiary of this remarkable event, has been a beacon of hope for children with cancer and their families in New Jersey for nearly two decades. Founded by Monica Vermeulen in 2005, the foundation has provided vital assistance through various programs and initiatives, offering financial, emotional, and material support to families navigating the challenges of pediatric cancer. “This event will strengthen our ability to bring much-needed resources and assistance to children and their families who are facing the horrific disease of pediatric cancer,” shared Vermeulen.
