Fully restored and selling for $97,000
Being sold by Riddelsdell’s Garage in Suffolk, UK, this is one of three child-sized Ferraris originally made for the luxury department store Harrods – which then sold for $45,000 each.
The restored fiberglass toy car features a leather interior, working gauges, retracting head-lights, and an official Ferrari steering wheel for authenticity. However, unlike most of today’s toy cars, this Ferrari boasts a sub-200cc lawnmower engine instead of a 12-volt battery and can hit a top speed of 25 MPH. In comparison, electric vehicles for kids usually max out around 6 MPH. So think of it more as a go-kart.
Howard Watts, who runs Riddelsdell’s Garage said “It’s a real mini-classic, a unique little car with a terrific history – the makers had to get permission from Ferrari before they could build it. It was in a poor state and has taken us a year to get all the parts needed to restore it to its former glory and put it back into showroom condition. It may be classed as a toy but it is beautifully built and engineered and the attention to detail is quite remarkable.”
At almost $100,000, this toy car is almost half the price of an actual Ferrari 512 Testarossa, but wealthy parents who want their youngsters spoiled will certainly make a splash with this set of wheels.
