Raymond J. Michelli, brother of ItaliaLiving.com Founder & Executive Director Richard J. Michelli, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 at age 36.
Raymond was a 1995 graduate of Ocean Township High School and a 2000 graduate of Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ. Raymond was a remarkable young man who touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was challenged all his life with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but he put a smile on the face of everyone he met. Despite his debilitating disease, Raymond’s love was athletics. He served as a manager of the Ocean Township High School football team and was a statistician for the Monmouth University football team. Raymond’s love for athletics was only surpassed by his love for his family: his mother, Roseann DiBiasi Michelli; father, Thomas; brother, Richard and his sister-in-law, Angela Michelli of Wayside and extra special love for his two nephews, Matthew and Christopher.
Raymond also served as an announcer for WMCX, the Monmouth University Hawks radio station as a DJ and sports commentator. He also served as the NJ Goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for several years. He was a parishioner of St. Anselm Roman Catholic Church and a member of the National Broadcasting Society.
Raymond enjoyed all things Italian… especially Italian food.
For those wishing to contribute to Raymond’s legacy, The Raymond Michelli Scholarship Fund has been established in his honor at Monmouth University. Donations to that scholarship can be made to Monmouth University, Division of University Advancement, West Long Branch, NJ 07764-9980.
