Montblanc pays homeage to creator of Pinocchio
Luxury brand Montblanc celebrated Italian author Carlo “Pinocchio” Collodi with the Limited Writers Edition 2011 writing instruments and Collectables Collection cufflinks, also a limited edition. Collodi, as the creator of one of literature’s most enduring children’s characters, fits in perfectly with previous honorees such as Proust, Voltaire and Dickens. The intricately crafted set of writing instruments and cufflinks will reference and honor Collodi’s story of the wooden puppet in search of boyhood, one of Western civilization’s best recognized children’s stories.
As one would expect of the world’s leading maker of fine writing instruments, every detail of this year’s limited edition has been painstakingly and respectfully designed to reflect Collodi’s masterpiece. The primary material is a dark-brown precious resin. The book’s colorful creatures, which include a whale, cricket, fox, cat and fairy are engraved on the cap overlay.
A screw has also been set into the clip, to symbolize the joints of the famous marionette, while the humorous cone is reminiscent of Pinocchio’s legendary growing nose. The limitation number and Collodi’s signature adorn the top of the cap, while the cricket on the 18K champagne gold nib provides the finishing flourish to this edition of most precious of fountain pens.
The Collectables Cufflinks Carlo Collodi are no less remarkable in their own right and they are the perfect match for the pens. From the bronze tone of the finish to the resin inlay, the cufflinks both reference Pinocchio’s state as a wooden puppet. The three gold rings decorating the cufflinks represent the three books Pinocchio always carried with him.
Montblanc created the first Limited Writers Edition in 1992 to honor literary icons who have made an indelible mark on cultural history through the power and beauty of their words. The Limited Writers Editions are highly sought after by connoisseurs and avid collectors worldwide.
Increasing their rarity and value is the unique handcraftsmanship involved in their production process; the manufacturing tools, specially developed for the production of every Montblanc Limited Edition, are destroyed at the end of each production run to make exact reproduction forever impossible.
The Montblanc Limited Writers Edition 2011 and Collectables Collection cufflinks are available in boutiques now.
