Forever a legendary leader in the watch industry

Angelo Bonati, the visionary leader who transformed Officine Panerai into a globally recognized luxury watch brand, has passed away on May 15, 2025.
Born in Milan in 1951, Bonati was appointed CEO of Panerai in 1997, shortly after the brand was acquired by the Richemont Group. With unmatched passion, vision, and strategic insight, he took a little-known Florentine brand and elevated it to international renown—without ever compromising its identity. His belief in the strength of Panerai’s heritage, its bold design language, and its connection to the sea laid the foundation for a legacy that continues to shape the industry today.
Under his leadership, Panerai developed its own in-house movements, expanded its product line while maintaining its distinctive identity fueled by its history, established a network of boutiques worldwide, and cultivated a passionate following known as “Paneristi.” The brand became synonymous with bold Italian design, craftsmanship, and maritime heritage. His love for the sea translated into initiatives like the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, reinforcing the brand’s maritime DNA.
Angelo Bonati stepped down in 2018 after more than two decades of leadership, but his influence still echoes throughout the halls of Panerai—and in the collections of enthusiasts around the world.
